Funding secured of around 29 million for area around Selby Station

Funding has been secured through the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund, which is
overseen by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, with additional contributions from the York and
North Yorkshire Combined Authority and North Yorkshire Council. This transformative project represents
an investment of approximately £29 million, aimed at regenerating the area surrounding Selby Station and
promoting sustainable travel and economic growth to the town.
The Contractor for the works is GallifordTry, a national contractor with extensive experience in civil
engineering and highways projects. GallifordTry will be undertaking the works in series of phases
commencing in late September 2025 with completion scheduled in the autumn of 2028. The phasing of
these works is intended to minimise disruption to the community, rail and road users and the everyday
operation of the town. Apologies have been made in advance for any inconvenience caused and contractors ask for your
understanding as they seek to deliver these improvements for Selby.
Initial non-intrusive surveys and preparatory works are scheduled to begin in mid-September, ahead of
demolition activities towards the end of the year including the removal of several redundant buildings
around the station, bus hub and Cowie Drive.
As the scheme progresses, individual residents and impacted parties will be contacted to inform them of
the proposed works.
Key objectives of the project include:

  • Creating a high-quality, safe, and welcoming environment around Selby Station
  • Improving access and connectivity for residents and visitors—whether on foot, by bicycle, bus, or car
  • Removing outdated infrastructure to encourage new investment
  • Enhancing air quality and supporting healthier, more sustainable travel options

For further details of the scheme please come along to one of the in-person information sessions being
    held at Selby Library on Friday 19 Sept 12noon- 5pm and Saturday 20 September 9:30am – 12noon.
